Jariwala will officially transition from the University of Pennsylvania to assume this new role in January 2027. He will lead research into next-generation microchips designed to make Artificial Intelligence (AI) more energy efficient. As part of his chair, he plans to establish a new materials deposition and characterization laboratory at the UT Research Park at Cherokee Farm to foster collaboration between the university and the national lab. - In late 2025, Jariwala was elected a Fellow of Optica for his pioneering work in light-matter interactions and “excitonic metamaterials”.
- In early 2026, his team published findings on Self-Hybridized Exciton Polariton Photodetectors using layered metal-organic chalcogenolates, which offer new ways to control optoelectronic properties.
- He is a co-founder of Agni Semiconductor, a startup focused on scaling and commercializing his materials research..

- Earned his PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from Northwestern University and his undergraduate degree from IIT Banaras Hindu University.
