About Vaccination Drive

- The campaign prioritizes more than 1.3 million children aged six months to five years
- Initial efforts are focused on 18 high-risk districts and 30 sub-districts known as upazilas , including densely populated areas like Dhaka and the Cox’s Bazar refugee camps.
- A broader nationwide campaign is scheduled to begin on May 3, 2026, to cover all remaining districts.
- The drive is supported by the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF & Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance..

Health officials and experts attribute the current crisis to significant “immunity gaps” caused by several factors..
- Nationwide vaccination drives normally held every four years were delayed in 2020 due to COVID-19 & in 2024 due to political unrest…
- Procurement issues and a depletion of vaccine stocks at central storage facilities have further hampered routine immunization.
- As of late March, at least 56 out of 64 districts in Bangladesh have reported cases with many pediatric wards currently overwhelmed
