Humanitarian Aid to Flood Hit Afghanistan

On April 5-6, 2026 , India has dispatched a fresh consignment of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) materials to Afghanistan  , On April 3 , the severe crisis caused by recent flash floods and a powerful 5.8-magnitude earthquake that struck northern Afghanistan ..

 Relief Materials By India

1. The assistance, delivered through the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), includes essential items designed to address immediate survival needs:
   • Tarpaulins, plastic sheets, and sleeping bags were sends
   • Hygiene kits to prevent the spread of waterborne disease
   • Kitchen sets for families who have lost their homes.
   • A separate 2.5 ton consignment of emergency medicines, medical disposables & equipment was also recently delivered to support hospitals treating those injured in recent attacks and natural disasters

 Crisis events in Afganistan

1. this floods have washed away residential homes and livestock shelters across several provinces. This was followed by a shallow earthquake centered in Badakhshan that caused significant damage, particularly to homes built from mud and wood.
2. India stands in solidarity with the Afghan people and remains committed to extending humanitarian support despite the lack of formal diplomatic recognition of the current regime..
3.  A 5.8-magnitude quake struck on April 3, 2026, with its epicentre in the northeastern province of Badakhshan, causing homes to collapse in areas as far as Kabul..

The Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS) is leading on-ground assessments and monitoring for further rainfall , Organizations like UNICEF are providing cash assistance, healthcare & warm clothing to displaced families in northern regions..
