India–Algeria mutual trust Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation

India and Algeria recently concluded the 7th round of Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) on March 29, 2026, in Algiers ; where both nations committed to expanding their $1.7 billion bilateral trade..

It was co-chaired by India’s Secretary Dr. Neena Malhotra and Algeria’s Secretary General Lounes Magramane with aimed to elevate the strategic partnership following the landmark visit of the President of India to Algeria in October 2024…

 Highlights of Recent Cooperation

1. Algeria officially welcomed the formation of the India-Algeria Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Indian Parliament to strengthen institutional relations.
2. Discussions identified hydrocarbons, phosphates, and mining as critical areas for diversification. Indian officials explored potential alliances with the Algerian Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Mines to secure India’s energy sources.
3.  Both sides identified pharmaceuticals, higher education, fertilizers, and agriculture as priority sectors for significant growth.
4. The two nations reaffirmed their commitment to jointly combat terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.
5. Both countries pledged to maintain close cooperation at the United Nations and other multilateral platforms on shared interests like regional security and climate change..
6. High-level talks explored academic partnerships and technology transfer, particularly in space sciences and renewable energy. 
7. Algeria officially welcomed the formation of the India-Algeria Parliamentary Friendship Group within the Indian Parliament to bolster institutional linkages.

These consultations build on the momentum of the historic state visit by the President of India to Algeria in October 2024. Both countries reiterated their commitment to “South-South cooperation” and pledged to coordinate closely at the United Nations and other multilateral forums on issues like climate change and regional security..
