INS Shachi ready to boost NGOPV Naval Modernisation

On 31 March 2026 ,the Indian Navy launched INS Shachi also known as Yard 1280 , the first of eleven Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels (NGOPVs) , ceremonial launch took place at Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) in Vasco da Gama, Goa & was officiated by Mrs. Shagun Sobti in the presence of Vice Admiral Tarun Sobti, Deputy Chief of the Naval Staff…

Key Features and Specifications :

INS Shachi is designed for multi-domain operations, featuring high indigenous content of approximately 76% and its others valauble quality are mention belows

1. The vessel measures 113 metres in length with a displacement of about 2,600 to 2,900 tonnes.
2.  It has a top speed of 25 knots and an impressive endurance range of 8,500 nautical miles at an economical speed of 14 knots.
3. The ship is designed to be crewed by 19-20 officers including provisions for 4 women officers and 130 sailors.
4.  It will be equipped with advanced systems sucha as  BEL Lynx-U2 Fire Control Radar and EON-51 Electro Optical Tracking Systems to manage its naval guns..

About NGOPV Programme

1. The launch marks the beginning of a broader modernization drive involving 11 ships
2. Seven ships are being built by Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) and four by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) in Kolkata.
3. The contract was signed in March 2023, with the first delivery expected by September 2026
4. These vessels will augment the Navy’s capabilities in anti-piracy, counter-infiltration, search and rescue (SAR), protection of offshore assets, and humanitarian assistance (HADR)

 NGOPV is critical for maintaining maritime security against both traditional and non-traditional threats in the Indian Ocean Region and It promote Sagar mission of India ..
