 Impact of Unified Control of NNTR

The transfer is expected to significantly improve conservation and local livelihood management through several key changes:

1. The reserve’s size has effectively doubled, increasing from approximately 654 sq km to 1,305.88 sq km with the addition of the 652.20 sq km buffer zone.
2.  While the core area remains closed during the monsoon, the unified control allows for safaris in the buffer zone all year long.
3. Consolidating management under one authority is intended to curb administrative overlaps, allowing for more effective responses to human wildlife conflict.
4. Plans are underway to establish new safari gates, homestay facilities & adventure sports to boost local economy and engagement.
5. Forestry and habitat work in the buffer zone will be aligned with wildlife management priorities rather than production forestry..
