Reason of Airspace Ban :
- The ban specifically targets U.S. and Israeli military operations against Iran. It expands upon an earlier decision to deny the U.S.A use of the jointly operated Rota and Morón airbases for offensive strikes.
- U.S. aircraft, including B-52 bombers and refueling tankers, must now reroute around the Iberian Peninsula. This significantly increases flight times and fuel consumption for missions into the Middle East.
- Spain will still allow U.S. planes to land or transit in emergency situations or for non-war related logistical support for NATO missions within Europe.
