The Indian Navy has deployed its Boeing P-8I Neptune long-range maritime patrol aircraft to Guam. This platform is a cornerstone of India’s undersea surveillance and is equipped with advanced sensors for submarine detection and tracking , India is joined by the United States, Australia, Japan and New Zealand.
Objectives and Operations :
- The drill involves over 200 cumulative hours of in-flight training focused on detecting, tracking, and neutralizing submarine threats.
- Crews move from simulated scenarios to real-time tracking of live submarine targets to sharpen their tactical coordination and speed.
- A primary goal is to standardize communication protocols and data links between allied navies, particularly given the commonality of the P-8 aircraft family used by four of the five participating nations.
This edition of Sea Dragon is taking place against a backdrop of heightened regional security concerns, including ongoing instability in West Asia and a focus on maintaining an open Indo-Pacific.
