The India flagged LPG tanker Jag Vikram successfully transited the Strait of Hormuz between the night of April 10 and the morning of April 11, 2026. It is the first Indian vessel to cross this strategic maritime chokepoint since the announcement of a temporary two week ceasefire between the United States and Iran..
Key Details of Passage :
- the vessel is estimated to be carrying approximately 20,000 tonnes of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG)
- Before its successful crossing, the tanker had been waiting for over a week for clearance amid regional tensions
- It is the 9th Indian ship to exit the Persian Gulf since early March 2026. Approximately 15 more India flagged vessels remain in the region awaiting their turn to exit.
Vessel Specifications says that
- it is a Mid-sized gas carrier (MGC), Owned and managed by the Mumbai-based Great Eastern Shipping Company , It has a deadweight tonnage (DWT) of over 26,000 tonnes and measures 174.2 meters in length
- Before its successful crossing, the Jag Vikram had been waiting for over a week for clearance to transit the strait, which had been heavily restricted due to regional conflict..
- During the transit, the ship broadcasted its identity as an Indian vessel with an Indian crew to coordinate with regional authorities
