Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is scheduled to visit Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on April 27–28, 2026, to attend the annual meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Defence Ministers , with aim to discuss regional security challenges, evolving geopolitical dynamics & counter terrorism strategies within the Eurasian region ..

 Agenda and Priorities in this meeting

India is expected to highlight several critical issues during the high-level meeting..

1. A primary focus will be on the need for decisive, collective action against cross-border terrorism and radicalisation.. 
2. Discussions will cover the changing geopolitical environment in Eurasia and its impact on regional stability..
3. The visit provides an opportunity to strengthen India’s footprint in Central Asia through bilateral partnerships.. 
4. Minister Singh is likely to hold separate meetings with his counterparts from member states, including Russia and China, to discuss specific strategic issues..

Kyrgyzstan is currently holding the rotating chair of the SCO for this cycle, India has consistently used the SCO platform to advocate for a “zero-tolerance” policy toward terrorism. Notably, at the 2025 meeting in Qingdao, China, Rajnath Singh reportedly declined to sign a joint statement because it did not sufficiently address India’s concerns regarding terrorism..
