On 1st May 2026 , Karnataka launched India’s first state-led Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Space Technology in Bengaluru , it is Established by the Karnataka Innovation and Technology Society (KITS) in collaboration with the SatCom Industry Association of India also known as (SIA-India), with aims to bridge the gap between advanced space research and commercial market solutions..
Strategic Goals of space Tech
- The state plans to develop a constellation of satellites focused on societal needs, such as agriculture, climate monitoring, and disaster management.
- The CoE will serve as a hub for space-tech startups, providing them with technical infrastructure, mentoring, and funding access to scale globally.
- Karnataka aims to capture 50% of India’s space market , a projected $22 billion opportunity by 2033and contribute to India’s goal of securing 10% of the global space economy.
- In partnership with academic institutions like the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), the centre will offer industry aligned training to upskill 5,000 professionals etc
