Justice Revati Mohite Dere was sworn in as the first woman Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court on January 10, 2026. This historic appointment followed her notification by the Central Government on January 1, 2026, effective upon assuming charge after the transfer of previous Chief Justice Soumen Sen to the Kerala High Court.​

The Supreme Court collegium recommended her elevation on December 18, 2025. President Droupadi Murmu formalized the appointment under Article 217 of the Constitution. Governor Chandrashekhar H. Vijayashankar administered the oath at Durbar Hall, Lok Bhavan, Shillong.
