The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) launched Mission SAKSHAM on April 28, 2026. This is a nationwide, mission-mode initiative specifically designed for the Urban Co-operative Banking (UCB) sector to enhance its governance, operational resilience & professional standards , Saksham stands for (SAhkari Bank KSHamta Nirman)..

Key Objectives of initiatives

1. To address historical gaps in managerial and operational capabilities within the cooperative banking ecosystem
2. to foster a robust compliance culture and ensure UCBs align with modern banking standards while maintaining their community focus..
3. To strengthen the sector’s financial health and protect the trust of small depositors..
4. To establish a self-reinforcing ecosystem for ongoing professional development..

Training , Scope and Participation..

1. The program is highly ambitious in its scale and target audience Covers approximately 1.40 lakh participants..
2. Programs are tailored for Board Members, Senior Management, Heads of Risk, Compliance, and Audit, as well as IT and operational staff..
3. Training is delivered through a mix of in-person or physical sessions and digital or e-learning modules.
4. Content is provided in regional languages where feasible to ensure better understanding at the grassroots level.
5. Developed in consultation with the Umbrella Organisation for UCBs and various National/State Cooperative Federations..

Urban Cooperative Banks are critical for financial inclusion, serving nearly 100 million customers through over 11,000 branches. Mission SAKSHAM seeks to bridge the “skill gap” between UCBs and commercial banks, ensuring that small depositors’ money is managed with the same professional rigor as larger financial institutions..
