Election Landslide in April 2026 Highlight

1. TMP won 24 out of 28 elected seats, securing a massive two-thirds majority
2. The BJP, despite being a state-level ally, contested independently and was reduced to only 4 seats 
3. Major parties including CPI(M), Congress, and IPFT failed to win a single seat 
4. This marks the party’s second consecutive term, improving upon its 2021 performance of 18 seats 

Key Tensions with BJP Ally

Although both parties are partners in the Tripura state government, their relationship has significantly strained recently

1. Both parties chose to fight the council polls separately after failing to reach a seat-sharing agreement
2. Founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma has openly accused Chief Minister Manik Saha of obstructing the “Greater Tipraland” movement and delaying the implementation of the Tiprasa Accord signed in early 2024
3. Following the victory, Debbarma described the win as a “complete whitewash” of adversarial politics and urged for peace to avoid post-poll violence.. 

Current focus of New Govt

The party is leveraging its renewed mandate to push for two primary goals that are

1.  Immediate implementation of the Tiprasa Accord for socio-economic and linguistic rights 
2. Renewed demands for a separate state or permanent constitutional solution for the indigenous population
3.  The youth wing (Youth Tipra Federation) recently staged major protests along the Tripura-Bangladesh border against alleged illegal embankment construction by Bangladesh
